Paw Paw Nov. 2009 workday

The pictures on the right are from last weeks workday at Paw Paw
woods across from Maple Lake. Many people not from this area
and even some who live nearby would not believe that these pictures
were taken less then ten miles from the Chicago border.
We had a great workday with some Stagg High School graduates on Thanksgiving break from college returning to help. Joe also had his nephew,Dan in town from Tenn. to see how Uncle Joe spends his weekends.
Thanks to all who came out to help.

Hidden Pond Nov. Workday

These pictures are from the Hidden pond workday on November 21, 2009. We had 68

people show up for the workday and we had four high schools represented, Stagg,

Sandburg, Reavis, and Gary Comer. We burned two huge brushpiles and added brush

that was on the ground from work done by FPD resource management crews a few weeks

ago. We also had a group adding brush from Kean Ave., that was cut by contractors, to a

existing brushpile. Special Thanks to our regular volunteer's, Diana, Bob and

Michelle working the burnpiles, Joe on the chainsaw, Jan, Carolyn, Kevin, Doug, Kathy and
Kevin working with the different groups of students. A special thanks to Joe and Diana

staying to wet down the brushpiles. Finally thanks to all the students who worked hard to
get so much work done. Thanks also to anyone that I forgot to mention.

Hidden Pond Burn

The pictures above are from the Hidden Pond burn on Sunday November 8. We had a great burn with over 80% coverage. You can also see we had a model show up wih a photographer to use the smoke as a background to show off a fur coat. I'm sure it smelled very smoky when they were done.

Welcome to Palos Blog

Welcome to our blog page where we will have workday reports, pictures and some other surprises. We will post a link on our weekly emails so click on that to get here for updates. We will also welcome information and photos from our volunteers that can be posted here. We still have to learn how this will all work but I have had this bouncing around in my head for a few months and decided to act on it today.
For those curious about PRP but not a volunteer, we volunteer in the Cook County Forest Preserve District, in the 17,000 acres of the Palos Division, just southwest of Chicago, Illinois. We we work cooperatively with FPD employees cutting brush, pulling weeds, collecting seed, and helping on controlled burns. We will be celebrating our 20th year of doing this work next year.
